I have seen Black Bean Brownies floating around on Pinterest for a while now... and today, I finally made them. I was so excited! Jason was going to be so surprised how good it tasted. I was gonna blow his mind! He'll say, "Black beans in brownies? Gross." And I will confidently reply "Oh no, my dear boy, you won't notice any kind of difference." And I will smile and show him my glorious healthy brownie, and he will taste heaven...
or so I thought.
I was the first to try this thing of beauty. The brownie batter had been quite tasty, though there was a hint of graininess from the black beans. Still, it wasn't bad. I licked the spatula and the bowl. Brownie batter is so good.
Anyways, I baked it perfectly, and the brownies looked good (though they did lack that nice, crinkly top). I cut out a perfect bite for myself. It tasted pretty good (there were a few chocolate chips in that bite). Then a second bite... hmmm kinda weird texture. Third bite....yeah I don't think I like them. I tried another bite, hoping it was a fluke. Then my stomach started to feel weird. I don't think my stomach liked it any more than my taste buds. It really wasn't that horrible. It just really wasn't that good either. The texture had a weird, dense, kinda sponginess to it. It didn't pass.
Jason came home, and I pretended to be all excited for him to try it.
He didn't like it. He said it wasn't very good. He didn't hate it though. I did. Looks like he's gettin' the black-bean brownies, while I go whip up some real brownies. =)

I saw a recipe for these on a cooking show recently and thought it would be fun to make them too. Good to know they really aren't that great.
C'mon. Even I could have told you that black bean brownies would be disgusting. Next time try prune juice. :) JK I've never attempted either, but my mil says she's made them with prunes.
